The History of Hypnotism by Wayne F. Perkins

What Is Hypnotism? Who invented it?
Yes, it's true, I did invent hypnosis! Hey, someone had to.
Actually, really knows when or where it began.

Hypnosis is the power, words have when surrounded by one idea or thought.

Wow, lets take a look at this!

"I thought you had to be in some kind of weird, unconscious, trance to be involved with hypnosis."

No, it really only involves weird unconscious trances when you want it to be that way.
We are talking about the "power words have," when surrounded by our complete attention. As we surround our attention on one idea or thought, amazing things happen.

We forget how much time ticked off on the clock when we were experiencing hypnosis.Remember the last time you were involved in a really good movie or reading a good book, or working on your computer at all hours of the night?

Did you realize you were in the "hypnotic" condition?
As you were in this condition, did your work seem effortless at times?
Did you feel comfortable? Did you feel relaxed?

Have you ever listened to a song that brought you back to a different time and place?
Have you ever smelled a fragrance that brought a memory or series of memories back to you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will be a great hypnotic subject!
You will achieve almost any goal you desire.

Hypnotism: The Early Days
Primitive societies used hypnotic phenomena throughout the ages for physical and spiritual benefits. Tribal drums and ritualistic dances have been a part of many societies around the globe.

Kings of middle age Europe would touch commoners with remarkable results. Priests and ministers would use a laying on of hands to affect changes in their church members. There have even been paintings and sculptures in ancient Greece and Egypt that depict a "curing sleep" induced in subjects by their leaders to affect healing or change.

In 1773, Franz Mesmer, an Austrian worked with a Jesuit priest, Maximillion Hell, who was the Royal Astronomer in Vienna, Austria.

They treated cases of hysteria with magnets. Hell thought the magnet cured with physical properties, interrupting the sick person's magnetic field. Mesmer thought there was a fluid mineral that pulsated throughout the person's body. He called it "animal magnetism."

This "animal magnetism" theory was confirmed in Mesmer's mind from his personal observation of Father Gassner, who would heal people by using laying on of hands.
He would make numerous passes all over the subject's body. Mesmer studied Father Gassner very carefully and theorized that this magnetic fluid circulating in the body was affecting these changes.

This animal magnetism fluid was affected by forces from astral bodies.
There were four primary fluids of concern. These four fluids included blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile.
Keeping these fluids in harmony was the trick to good health.
This theory was sound at the time and coincided with Ben Franklin's discovery of electricity and recent advances in astronomy.

Mesmer moved to Paris in 1778 and invented "backquets."
These backquets were large iron pots that would hold many adults. He would line the "backquets" with iron filings and magnets.

Patients would enter the bath, immerse themselves with water and leave cured of their ailment. Mesmer had a very high percentage of cures.

In 1784, the French Academy set up a commission to study Mesmer and set forth to find internationally famous scientists to explain what was really going on there.
Ben Franklin from America, Lavoisier, and Dr. Guillotin, a chemist and inventor of the "guillotine" were asked to study Mesmer and his techniques.

Mesmer took two large iron rods and touched these rods to several trees in the forest to "magnetize" them. His patients were asked to go into the forest and touch the magnetized trees. It was business as usual for Mesmer because many patients came back, cured of their afflictions. However, patients were touching all the trees in the forest, not just the magnetized ones.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ben Franklin and the other scientists arrived at the conclusion that Messmer was not healing the patients.
The patient was healing him/her self by using their own power. The patient's imagination was stimulated in such a way that would enable the person to become completely healed!

This is exciting!
The experiment demonstrated long ago, showed we possess all the power we need to get better.
The self-hypnosis instruction you find on this web site will help you learn all the exercises you need to succeed in your personal success journey.

5 Tips to Reduce Depression

While war and poor economic conditions begin to affect people all over the world, more and more people suffer with depression. The more we focus on news events and the business climate, the more we are depressed. Whatever the reason you feel is the cause of your depression, the following five simple tips guarantee you reduce it significantly.

1. Do not read newspapers.

Newspapers publish negative stories most of the time. Even in peaceful periods, newspapers will find the worst in humanity and place negative stories on display in order to promote sales and subscribers. Stories focused on War, rebellion, death, destruction, doom and despair abound in the newspapers.

Stop reading the newspaper and reduce the negative input to your brain.

2. Turn off your television.

Watching and listening about the horrible economy and the losses associated with War will add to depression. In fact, you guarantee the feeling of helplessness. Helplessness allows depression to nurture. If you really need to watch or listen to these kinds of news stories, promise yourself you will bury yourself in the documentaries that are sure to follow in the next 5 or 10 years. A way you can eliminate most of the negative input to your brain is by setting it aside for a date somewhere in the future. I guarantee in the future, you will not find it very interesting.

When visitors come to your home, make sure you turn off your television and keep it off. News television broadcasters are fighting for your guests' attention as they promote despair, war, death, and destruction with many headline news interruptions. Those little banners that run across the bottom of the screen achieve your attention and they take hold of your consciousness. Television will diminish your positive spirit.

3. Say good things about others

My Mother always says, "if you can't say anything nice about others, don't say anything at all." However, when you find yourself in a conversation and a relative says, "Remember Uncle Phil?" " He was an alcoholic" Respond with " yes, Uncle Phil was an alcoholic and he was the most charitable person, I have ever met."

Connect your friend's negative statement about Phil with a positive one. Set yourself up to find the positive in anyone's statement and you will keep negative thoughts and depression from overtaking your life.

4. Get physical exercise

Adults forget about exercise when suffering from depression. Make sure you are exercising daily and sending more oxygen to your brain cells. The result of exercise will improve your health as well as your attitude.

5. Breathe deep and relax.

Practice the following breathing exercise to relax your body and mind. Breathe deeply and relax. For 3 minutes each hour take a short mental vacation.

You can engage in this exercise while you are standing in the checkout line at the supermarket or when listening to others while talking on a telephone. You can complete the exercise at home or at work.

Take three deep breathes and relax. As you inhale, concentrate on calm and peaceful thoughts. You may think about relaxing by a mountain, by the ocean or comfortably in your favorite room at home.

As you exhale, concentrate on pushing any tension out of your lungs.

Focus on positive images in your life. Focus on laughter, love, excitement, and hope.

Keep breathing in and out in this pattern until you feel better. If you practice the exercise often, you will notice wonderful changes in your outlook and in other aspects of your life.

Reduce your depression now! Enjoy your family, your friends, and your life.

Short Hypnosis Induction 1. by Wayne F. Perkins

Short Hypnosis Induction 1.
Top Down Induction

by Wayne F. Perkins, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist

This short hypnosis induction includes suggestions to improve sleeping at night. This is a great first induction to use on a subject or yourself if you are practicing self-hypnosis in order to experience hypnosis and immediate benefits the very first night you try it.

Instructions:

Sit up in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your hands relaxing in your lap or at your side. Or you may begin by lying on your bed with your hands resting at your side.

During this session in hypnosis you will learn how to relax deeply. Upon arousing yourself from hypnosis you will find that you will sleep soundly when it is time to do so. You will awaken feeling the best sleep you have ever had.

Now we begin. In a moment your muscles will relax.

Close your eyes. As you close your eyes, think about relaxing the muscles of your forehead.

As you think about relaxing the muscles of your forehead, you are breathing deeply and comfortably. All the muscles of your body are relaxing.

Now think about relaxing the muscles of your face. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your face, your body relaxes more and more.

Now think about relaxing the muscles of your neck. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your neck, you are going deeper to sleep. (or into hypnosis).

Now that your neck is relaxed, think about relaxing all of the muscles of your chest. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your chest, you are going deeper to sleep. (or into hypnosis)

Think about relaxing the muscles of your shoulders. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your shoulders you are going deeper to sleep. (or into hypnosis)

Now think about relaxing the muscles of your arms and hands. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your arms and hands, you are going deeper to sleep. (or into hypnosis)

Think about relaxing the muscles of your stomach. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your stomach, you are going deeper to sleep. (or into hypnosis)

All of the muscles of your body are relaxing as you are going deeper and deeper asleep.

Now think about relaxing the muscles of your legs. As you think about relaxing the muscles of your legs, you are going deeper and deeper asleep. (or into hypnosis)

Think about relaxing the muscles of your feet. As you think about the muscles of your feet, you are going deeper and deeper asleep. (or into hypnosis)

From the top of your head to the bottom of your feet, you are now perfectly relaxed. Continue breathing deeply.

In a moment I am going to count from one to five. When I reach five, you will be wide awake and alert and feeling better than you ever felt before. Upon arousing yourself from hypnosis you will find that you will sleep soundly when it is time to do so. You will awaken feeling the best sleep you have ever had.

Okay, one...two...three...get ready to open your eyes, four...FIVE. Wide awake and alert.

How do you feel?
