Hypnosis and Stock Market Stress

Hypnosis and Stock Market Stress

People become hypnotized by bad news and many times do not think rationally when it comes to handling money.

Yesterday, the United States Stock Market fell by over 400 points. This is the largest decline since September of 2000, when America was enveloped in the aftermath of 911.

Part of the problem exists when people begin to hear bad news in the stock market they call their broker to sell, even though they may lose money.

Stock holders forget that the rule governing buying and selling stock is, buy low and sell high.

When the market is low, this is the best time to buy.

People should have been jamming the phone lines and buying up their favorite stocks at rock bottom prices and then holding to sell once the market corrected itself.

Reduce your stress and enjoy your life by playing by the rules of buying and selling stock and do not be caught up in the hype of gloom and doom via the media.

Wayne helps Kentucky Fans on the Radio

Wayne Perkins appeared on the Chris Cross radio show on ESPN Sports 1300 on Tuesday night just prior to the big game between the University of Kentucky and LSU.

Wayne's advice to the listening audience was to "focus on the end result of the game." "Focus on winning."

Too many times we want to focus on the star player or a task rather than the end result.

Remember what the great football coach Vince Lombardi always said, "Winning isn't everything...it's the only thing."

Just like in life, it is the end results that count.

The Kentucky Wilcats must have heard and felt those suggestions as the won their 400 game in Rupp Arena.

Congratulations to the team and their great fans!

Dedication to Dottie Walters: The Mentor of Public Speakers

Dedication To Dottie Walters

On February 14,2007, Dottie Walters, THE MENTOR of great paid professional speakers…died.

I first remember listening to a Dottie Walters tape on selling many years ago. This was a time when Dottie created a large advertising agency from the humble beginnings of a good pair of shoes and a baby stroller.

Back in 1998, I went to the Walter’s Ranch for a professional speaking workshop. It was wonderful because I got some quality time with Dottie and here wonderful husband, Cowboy Bob.

Just a few years ago, Bob passed away.

One of the great lessons I learned from Dottie is to ask questions of your prospects and clients. One of her favorite lessons is to say, “Tell me more, “when asking about a client’s major concerns.

Through Dottie’s tireless efforts in presenting at major venues across the United States and her dedication to the Learning Annexes, hundreds if not thousands of professional speakers and consultants have benefited by her time on earth.

I am so glad to have published a handful of articles for her wonderful, Sharing Ideas Magazine, over the years. Her magazine titled Sharing Ideas, should have been here nickname. She shared her ideas and ideas of other successful speakers with anyone who would listen.

My life is better because of Dottie Walters.

Now, with Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison sitting at my imaginary Master Mind table, I now include Dottie Walters. I always appreciate your advice.

Get ready for a new gig… Dottie!

Thank you my dear friend.

Gratefully,

Wayne F. Perkins

P. S. Along with the Cavaet Award for Public Speaking I believe the National Speakers Association should have a Dottie Walters Marketing Award for ‘excellence in marketing speaking practices.”

Hypnosis Interview with FA on February 11

The following is a transcript from interview I did for FA on February 11, 2007:

FA: Hello Wayne,

I know we haven't spoken in a while, but I seriously need your help. I'm writing
a speech on hypnosis and I needed to interview a hypnotist. This is where
you come in...if you could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

1. Could you tell me a brief history of hypnosis?

Back in ancient Egypt, hypnosis was called “healing sleep.” The subject was really awake but with eyes closed and listening to a person’s voice. Healing sleep was used to help people get over illnesses and mental anguish.

In the late 1700s, Fran Anton Mesmer, an Austrian, observed a Catholic Priest laying hands on a parishioner to overcome healing. Mesmer thought what was realy going on was that the person was surrounded by a magnetic field and that the Priest was sending out magnetism and that God was not really intervening in the process.

Mesmer thought that if he would use 2 large metal rods, he could create the same kind of magnetism that would help patients overcome their illnesses.

In 1792, Benjamin Franklin from the US, was called to Paris, France to observe Mesmer working on patients using the magnetized rods.

Franklin concluded that the people were using their own minds to cure themselves of illnesses. They were using their own imaginations.

This is what a hypnotist really does. He helps people use their own minds to fix what is wrong with them.

2. Important figures in hypnosis and their contributions.

James Braid who was a Scottish physician in the 1880s first observed other Scottish physicians using a form of meditation on Indian subjects during the British Indian Wars over in India.

Many surgeries were performed at that time with hypnosis as the only anesthetic.

Later John Elliotson, a Scottish Physician who used hypnosis techniques in surgery, invented the stethoscope and brought it to America where American Doctors began using it.

In 1906 over 40,000 stomach surgeries were performed by the Mayo Brothers, doctors from Rochester, Minnesota, where each patient was hypnotized before given ether for their anesthetic for surgery.

This was because 1 in 400 people who had routine stomach surgery would die on the operating table from the use of ether rather than the surgery itself.

The Mayo doctors found that by hypnotizing the patient first and relaxing them prior to surgery, they could cut the dosage of ether down by a third to one-half.

In over 40,000 surgeries they had no one die on the operating table as a result of this new procedure.

3. What it feels like and whether it's natural or supernatural.

Being hypnotized feels different to different people. Most people feel very relaxed, however they feel that they are always under control.

Some people will think they are sleeping and remember very little of the experience.

Most people however, will feel normal, and feel they can get out of hypnosis on their own at any time.

4. What are its' uses and how it's important for us to learn about it.

It is used to reinforce weight reduction programs

Reduce stress

Build self-confidence

Help people quit smoking

Help with stuttering and other speech related problems

Improve sports ability

Prepare for medical surgery

Replace traditional anesthesia

Improve memory

Lower blood pressure

Reinforce diabetic prescriptions and reduce the need for insulin

Overcome road rage

Improve personal relations

5. If so, how has it impacted you?

I become an entertainer back in 1976 using hypnosis. Even though at the time I really wasn’t interested in helping other people with personal issues, it became an natural outcome of my entertainment.

I performed at high schools and colleges throughout the United States, and found people eager to learn more about hypnosis.

Now, I work with companies to help their employees reduce stress at home and in the workplace.

Reduction of stress allows employees to be more productive and the same time, remain healthy and happy.

6. How do you become a hypnotist?

Since there are no 4 year colleges that have any programs in hypnosis, you have to learn it on your own.

I learned from a personal mentor, Ormond McGill who just died back in October at the age of 92. He worked with others and taught hypnosis up to 3 days before he died.

It took me a couple of years to find him. At the time I lived in Illinois and he lived in California.

Most people learn from reading books, taking weekend courses held by other hypnotists, or listening to CDs and tapes.

There are no four year professional hypnosis training programs in the United States where I live.

This makes it hard to enter the profession. You have to go out and find training.

I now train people one-on-one to become a professional hypnotist under my mentoring program and offer audio CD training for those who cannot afford the one-on-one training.

7. And if you can tell me anything else, it would be great.

You can lean more about hypnosis by talking to your school or city librarian.

How to Overcome the Fear of Rejection

I like to improve the odds of successfully treating clients using hypnosis. One of the best ways of insuring your success as a hypnotist is to probe your client before hypnotizing him or her.

In probing your client you are looking to find the fears that will hold your client back from successfully completing your hypnosis treatment program.

One of the major fears you need to help your client overcome is the “fear of rejection.”

Fear of rejection comes into play especially in the areas of smoking cessation, controlling weight, or preparing for plastic surgery.

I met a guy we will call Charles, who was trying to give up smoking. He went to a one day stop smoking clinic presented by one of my hypnotist students. At the end of the day, Charles destroyed a pack of cigarettes and swore he would never touch those cigarettes again.

Charles went to his favorite night club, where smoking is allowed, and began talking about his hypnosis experience with a couple of his friends. As friend number one was expounding on hypnosis being the “work of the Devil,” friend number two was placing packs of cigarettes in front of Charles. Friend number two went to a convenience store during this discussion and quickly returned with a full carton of cigarettes. He laid the carton in front of Charles at the night club table.

Within a short time, Charles was smoking more than ever. His fear of losing his non-supportive friends was superior to his wish to give up smoking.

I asked Charles why he picked up the cigarettes and he simply said, “I felt rejected by my decision to quit smoking.” “The guys didn’t think it was okay.” “They kept putting me down for it and made fun of me.” “I just had to go back to get things back to normal.”

The fear of rejection, can wreak havoc on a hypnosis treatment program. As a hypnotist, make sure you ask your clients in their very first visits, “How will your friends feel about your success?” “When you are successful using this treatment, are you ready to change your life, forever?

If you receive answers during your first sessions that your clients are not ready to their lives forever, then recommend they come back when they are ready to change. The must be committed to change in order for your hypnosis treatment program to work.

Summary

Hypnosis can work miracles, however, only when your clients are ready to overcome their fear of rejection. I wish you success in helping all your clients overcome their fears of rejection.

Super Bowl Hypnosis

Super Bowl Hypnosis

With the Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears just a few days away, people all over the United States are feeling Super Bowl Hypnosis.

Super Bowl Hypnosis involves the subconscious “buy in” we have when it comes to large media events.

You can find free videos on Youtube.com for example that present players from the two teams in video game highlights as well as audio and video highlights running rampant on the Internet.

In traditional news coverage’s across the country, reporters are interviewing and talking about every possible game scenario, and basically analyzing it to death.

You can find videos of new television commercials that will be played during “Super Sunday,” and the Super Bowl.

People are planning parties with a Super Bowl them even though they may not be fans of either the Chicago Bears or the Indianapolis Colts.

Hypnosis is involved when a person is focused on one thought or one idea. Hypnosis involves the fundamental law of attraction that states, “Whatever we hold in our mind, our body moves in that direction.” “We are what we think about most.”

This Sunday, many Americans as well as some people in other countries around the world will be focused on Super Sunday and the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Hypnosis will be with us.

Monday Morning our thought patterns will change and we will be back to normal, again.
